Unveiling of the newly remodeled restaurant is slated for mid-May.
During a tough winter in Mammoth, Whiskey Creek’s Greg Alexander kept things moving along there and jumped right into a massive remodel of Whiskey Creek Bishop. The debut is set for mid-May.
Alexander, an energetic and independent type, weathered business storms in Mammoth Lakes, kept the restaurant going there, and came out with a drive to re-create the Bishop restaurant, complete with plush booths, lots more carpet, all new lighting, different window treatments, a newly designed bar and lounge with music and a dance floor. With shades of the old Whiskey Creek, a highly popular night spot in the 70s and 80s, the new look will go well beyond the past.
Plans will take out all the bus stations. “People want to dine in quiet,” said Alexander. On the Pine Street side, the change will bring in complete booths with high backs and the capacity to accommodate larger parties. The main dining area will include the same new booths.
Design maven, Robin Stater suggested a contemporary Western theme. She has handled colors, fabrics, art and design. Alexander talks with excitement about the new, high-backed booths in many locations, carbonized-oak tables, oversized stuffed chairs, classic tables on the Main St. side with potential seating for large groups.
Alexander came to the Eastern Sierra with an extensive background in fine dining general management. When you hear him talk about this current project, it’s clear he’s in all the way from design, music, and employees, to the menu. The new remodel will usher in some 20 new changes on the food side.
For those who miss the softer side of Whiskey Creek in the old days, Alexander says the restaurant will be 95% carpeted. The new Red Boot Sports Bar and Lounge will extend from the current bar, with 10 new LCD TVs, to the former Sugar and Spice Room which will be transformed into a lounge with couches and atmosphere. A new sound system will entertain those in the lounge and on the patio. “This is for the 30 and older crowd,” he said. “The music level will be just right so you can still have a conversation.”
Along with the music, video screens. “Wherever you are, you will feel like part of the night club.” Alexander and some of his crew researched clubs in Las Vegas to get ideas for Whiskey Creek’s bar and lounge. Of his restaurant’s new look, Alexander said, “This will be something Bishop looks at and says ‘Holy Cow!’”
Alexander says he will unveil the whole new look May 14th, but you can check out the progress now. The restaurant remains open during remodeling.
I hope it works for him. I know people who work there who aren’t making enough money to make ends meet with the restaurant emptying out by 7:00pm. How about bringing back the chicken sandwich, burnt ends and potstickers on happy hour special? If he breaks even on the food, he should make the big money on the drinks. Course the senior crowd that grabs most of the tables before others are off work might not order as many drinks….or maybe they do?
