Traffic Stop conducted on Rap Artist Frank Ocean (MCSO press release)
On Monday, December 31, 2012, at approximately 4:30pm, a Mono County Deputy Sheriff, with the assistance of a California Highway Patrol Officer, observed a black BMW traveling at a high rate of speed, southbound on US Hwy 395 near Tom’s Place.
The vehicle was stopped by the Deputy. As the Deputy approached the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana came from inside the car. Christopher Breaux, aka Frank Ocean, age 25, of Beverly Hills, CA, had a small bag of marijuana on his person. Mr. Breaux was cited for possession of marijuana and released.
This incident has been forwarded to the Mono County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Because when you are rich and famous you don’t play by the same rules. You know if this was Jeremiah’s alter ego that got pulled over for speeding, Marijuana and a suspended license. And was just cited and released. My whole out look would change but I know that isn’t… Read more »
That’s why I think a 30 day impound would be better punishment for breaking the laws he did….two times in one day….If HE had to make the 250 mile drive to reclaim his sportscar from a tow yard, and cough up about $1,200 impound fees, next time he wanted to smoke weed… Read more »
Where are we getting this two times in one day violation?

The new York Daily News article stated that he was stopped in Inyo County on the 30th going north-bound on 395 and stopped at Keoghs HOT Springs and cited. The next day,New Years Eve. he was cited AGAIN going south-bound on 395 at Tom’s Place, where he was cited for… Read more »
Big Rick…Maybe not in cuffs, since things have evolved to where if your in possession of certain drugs,it’s now become a citation and not an arrest…..but I doubt we’d be able to be taking photos with our cell-phone,and making a joke out of it. If we did,the least we’d get is… Read more »
Sounds like he had weed in the car but was not stoned or it would be a DUI arrest. They would not have let him travel on his way.
Bennett, just wonderin’ what happened to the +’s and -‘s …
We underwent a major move of the website to a new and better host. Our webmaster is onto the like/dislike malfunction and will have it back ASAP.
Benett (Thanks for asking about this.)
Seems a bit faster and more responsive.
forget hes a rapper for a second,he was speeding and got pulled over.he had marajuana.he got cited just like anyone else would have.he was putting innocent lives in danger being high and speeding on 395,which is a highway that needs your full attention with all the people driving crazy already… Read more »
He must have been speeding to get a pot prescription because of a bad skiing injury. Regarding cops stopping speeders do you have any idea how many serious criminals have been caught because they were speeding away from where they just committed a crime? A TON! They are speeding to… Read more »
A “RAPPER” with weed and NO guns…this is a first. TMZ reported that he also had a suspended DL & his passenger had to drive the car back to the city of angels. Just sayin’.
Some people never learn…he was cited TWICE in a 24 hr. period. once northbound at Keough’s Hot Springs in Inyo County and then AGAIN going southbound at Tom’s place, where the CHP took his suspended DL. Why is it that idiots with tons of money can never seem to maintain… Read more »
Don’t understand…If he was cited TWO times in one day for driving on a suspended license,he should have been arrested AND had his vehicle impounded.I know the report says with the stop by Tom’s Place, the passenger took the wheel….but as soon as the CHP officer was gone and out of… Read more »
Another instance of a Hollywood boy thinking he can do as he pleases….and again people defending him because he happened to have marijuana in possession.First off, putting other lives in danger by speeding, and on top of that being high on pot AND speeding…and then someone trying to say a Sheriff has… Read more »
Do remember all of these allegations are allegations. The case has not been adjudicated.

Wayne- you got guts calling this rapper dude boy. i’ll give ya that. But I could care less that he was speeding or in possession of anything. It’s his music I can’t stand.
Last I knew, Mono County Sheriff does not have Radar. They have no business pulling over a “speeding” vehicle. How fast can they know the car was going?
I do believe law enforcement officers, not just the CHP, do have the right and duty to stop what are obviously speeding vehicles.
Benett Kessler
First, a disclaimer. The MLPD had nothing to do with this stop and I only know what was put out in the news release. To JJ’s comment, radar is not required to stop a vehicle for speeding. Police vehicles have speedometers that are certified periodically to show the actual speed.… Read more »
Mr. Watson- I sure admire that you are not afraid to respond to public opinions and comments you hear. Ever consider running for Bishop D.A.?
How about City Council? This town could use some clear thinkers with integrity.
I’d have a field day in court with this one since no radar was used. When was the oil last changed in the police car, the tires, speedometer professionally checked. Just watch, this dude is free.
The Judge would probably laugh at ya Jon
I as well respect your willingness to address the public. BUT it wasn’t the speeding it was the Marijuana that was the main kicker in this story. Traffic Enforcement is definitely important, it was the law that which allows officers to place people in the criminal category if they have… Read more »
Imposter you forgot the periods.
It is called pacing where you see someone going really fast and then catch up/match speeds. And considering how many people have died on the 395, the fact that most people believe they are much better drivers than they really are, that there was a good chance that the guy… Read more »

How lame and who is still for the cops wasting their resources on such a petty issue? In this instance can anybody reveal any progress towards anything during this cite and release besides the officer stopping the individual that was traveling at a high rate of speed that we see… Read more »
The “high rate of speed” is a bigger threat to the rest of us than his bag of weed is.
Slow the FRICK down. The rest of us will thank you and the Sheriffs won’t bother you.
Maybe it … just maybe now … it slowed his sorry ass down. He just thought he could do what ever he wanted .. they could have cited him for HRoS as well. So far it is the law .. don’t get high and drive … he probably blew by… Read more »
“So far it is the law” but I can come up with several irrational laws that have been debunked in time. No Alvin I don’t think it is OK but I also don’t think it is OK for cops to continue to pat themselves on the back for anything that… Read more »

Why thank you. Writing awful doggerel is easier than it looks, so I’ve decided to cast about for a “rad” handle with which to launch a new career. I understand from some neighborhood youngsters that the moniker “M and M”, oddly enough, met with critical acceptance a few years back,… Read more »
Too vulgar.
BK
There is no such thing as “too vulgar” in rap, my dear. It is both delightful and flattering to your taste that you are unaware of this.
Enema — that’s pretty funny…
…by the way, I get the “M” reference — that’s pretty good too.

Maybe after our next election there will be no crime to report here.
Trouble…..And if the population was dumb enough to do that in the next election,I’m sure the “recreational pot smokers” would somehow try to find loop-holes,excuses,etc. trying to make their pot-smoking immune to anytype of Law Enforcement consequences……the same way they did with the “medical marijuana” issue….thinking it would be O.K.and… Read more »
