Bishop Police investigate apparent welfare embezzlement

pdBishop Police Chief Chris Carter confirmed that his department has launched an investigation into what he said appears to be the embezzlement of funds inside of the Inyo County Welfare Office in Bishop.

The Chief said this investigation is in the early stages and so not many details are available. Asked how much money is involved, Chief Carter said he and his officers do not yet know. He said that he has called people in from the State level to help separate fraudulent versus legitimate funds to determine the total amount of loss.

Chief Carter said some, but not all, suspects have been identified and no one is in custody. The apparent internal embezzlement will remain the subject of investigation with more details available later, according to the Chief.

Carter said, “As things stabilize, we will identify suspects and know the extent of the theft.”

Data released by the U.S. Census Bureau last September showed another devastating increase in the number of children living in poverty. The numbers are grim and shameful. There are 16.1 million children—nearly one million more—living in poverty. Marian Wright Edelman with Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Julia Cass chronicles the new faces of poverty through the “Children of Hard Times”. Traveling across the heartland of America, Ms. Cass reports the desperate toll poverty takes on children and their parents. The stories offer fresh insight into the daily struggle to provide food and shelter, health care and educational support, and find stable employment paying a liveable wage in the United States in 2011.

….Sounds kinda like one of those right-wing rants a couple months ago…something like “If you don’t have health-care,the solution is……don’t get sick or ill”.

And as per usual, you have those who completely forget or simply don’t care about those little kids who have been born into families that are living in poverty.

Bless the beasts and the children – For in this world they have no voice. They have no choice.

Our culture is growing nastier by the hour.

This is a shame. Too many lazy people in this world defraud the system as it is, whether it be welfare fraud, cash aid, or food stamps,or false medical claims. But to have an insider/s defraud the system is down right embarassing and obviously too easy to accomplish. The poor employees that are not involved in this deviant act are now having to manage through embarrassment,an investigation, loss of friends and co-workers, and a level of guilt that this was happening under their nose. Theyhave been defied as well by one or more of their own!! Cant imagine what their Office morale is at this point, just trying to concentrate and get their daily jobs done. If their Department leaders had any sense, they woul bring in some sort of grief counseling services. But again, It’s Inyo County, reactive rather than proactive!! May justice be served to the evil employees who have stolen tax payer dollars that fund system intended to assist he more unfortunate. As a tax payer, I hope they have many sleepless nights and suffer!

      Right on, dustdevil.
And as per usual, you will have those who will automatically whine:
“You see. Didn’t I tell you? See how those tax-eaters are?” and lump all public-sector employees into that negative category.

Such is the mindset today in today’s dark and growing colder world.

At least they took the investigation outside the County this time. Obviously the crime wasn’t committed by a favorite of the CAO or personnel…it would have been swept under the rug and the reporting party would have been disciplined.

Ferdinand Obviously you didn’t see the entire 47% of what you are referencing to, you are talking about our military personnel, elders and students, yes of course there is lazy people and those that don’t earn their own keep but they are the ones that have to accept the fact they wasted their lives and wasted all the opportunity’s that others took advantage of.
I am only responding to you only because I don’t like your comments because they are self centered and un-productive for you and anybody that reads them. So before you think you know everything like I tend to do at times then know I don’t like your comments because they are simply unlikable and as long as I am fortunate enough to not need any of the services you mentioned I will continue to dislike your tainted views.
And I would not be surprised if you fall in that 47% percent that Gov. Romney pity’s so much.
