Rich Boccia
After a series of closed sessions with the Mammoth School Board, Superintendent Rich Boccia has resigned effective Friday, March 1st.
Board member Gloria Vasquez said she could not comment on Boccia’s sudden departure. Said Vasquez, “Members of the Board don’t talk about personnel matters in public.” She could not confirm or deny community rumors about Boccia’s resignation. What is known is in a letter issued by the School Board to the staff.
Signed by all Board members, the letter, dated Thursday, February 28th, says, “We wish to inform you of a significant event that took place at last night’s Board meeting. Superintendent Boccia informed the Board of Education that he will be leaving the district, effective Friday, March 1st.” The letter goes on to say that Boccia shared with the Board that “this was a very difficult, personal decision.”
The letter wishes Boccia well and thanks him for his commitment to address instructional topics. There is no stated reason in the letter for Boccia’s immediate departure.
Board members do say in the letter that they are taking action to identify an interim superintendent and are confident they will have someone in place within the next few weeks. The Board planned to consider this issue in a special board meeting and closed session Monday at 4:30pm.
In June of 2010, Mammoth School Board had announced that Boccia was the finalist in their superintendent search. They had interviewed six finalists that they called “highly qualified.” Officials had also visited Boccia’s previous school district in Pasadena and said he had worked as a principal at elementary, middle and high school levels.

This reeks of more drama coming soon.

Gotta love the view from the “cheap” seats. For once in the last 13 years (since Mr. Oldham) we have a Principal that can maybe bring the school back to where it use to be at one time (great faculty, academics, and SPORTS)…….the Board is what needs to go! Hats off to Gabe for what he has done since taking the job.

Glad to see Boccia go. I have known him personally and professionally for over a decade
and always felt he was a bad fit for Mammoth.WAY too big of an ego for a district as small as ours.

I am glad he speaks highly of me lol. He is a very passionate and talented administrator, just not a good fit in my opinion. That isn’t a slam on him just
an observation.
