(CHP press release) On Thursday, May 8, 2014, Mono County Sheriff’s Department deputies were attempting to contact an individual in the Crowley Lake area in order to serve a felony arrest warrant related to multiple previous drunk driving arrests. Deputies were unsuccessful locating the individual at his residence and learned he had recently been seen driving in the area.Deputies requested a “Be on the Lookout” broadcast to all local law enforcement personnel. At about that same time the CHP’s (California Highway Patrol) Bishop Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen reporting a vehicle traveling south on US 395, near Ed Powers Road, north of Bishop, was weaving and unable to stay within its traffic lane.
The CHP communications center broadcast the 9-1-1 caller’s information, including a description of the vehicle, to officers in the field. A CHP officer and sergeant, both from Bridgeport Area, Mammoth Lakes Resident Post, had monitored both broadcasts and believed they were related. The two CHP units responded while the 9-1-1 caller continued to follow the vehicle.
Ultimately, at 4:48 PM, the suspect vehicle was observed traveling the wrong way on Academy Avenue, a one-way street, near North Main Street in Bishop. A felony traffic stop was initiated and the driver, Mr. Daniel J. Maddock, Age 52 of Crowley Lake, was taken into custody for both the felony arrest warrant and for driving under the influence of alcohol at the time he was stopped.
Deputies from both the Mono and Inyo Counties Sheriff’s Department assisted in locating Mr. Maddock and taking him into custody. The suspect was booked into the Inyo County Jail in Independence and bail was set at $250,000 secondary to information Mr. Maddock may have been fleeing from the area in order to avoid prosecution.
You Don’t need a “License” to drive if your “Traveling” …NOT… “Driving”… but “Traveling under the Common Law Right to Travel”… it’s in the U.S. Constitution.. check it out 🙂
Please show where the our Constitution addresses the driving of automobiles. You can “Travel” all you like without a license, but if you want to do it driving a vehicle on public roads, you need to be licensed. Traveling may be a right, but driving is a privilege.

It’s just a page from the “Sovereign Citizens” movement. And like nearly everything else these misguided “Sovereign Citizens” attempt, it gets struct down in court more often than not.

Hard to believe that people get multiple DUI’s and keep doing it. I know a guy who had 3 DUI accidents in a six month period last year. He’s in the gray bar hotel up in Bridgeport these days thank god. In my opinion, alcohol and meth are the worst… Read more »

RAM…..That is so true….back in the early 90’s,if you got a DUI in California,you automatically lost your drivers license for 6 months….no waivers to go to work either….now it seems one can have two,three DUI’s in just a few months,and they’re STILL allowed to drive….and probably still driving drunk….guess for… Read more »
Driving without a license is not the same as legally allowed to drive. It isn’t clear from the article but you don’t keep your license after a second DUI. That doesn’t stop people from driving. Our local police like to hang out in the court parking lot and arrest people… Read more »
