Here come the judges. Actually, Justices of the Court of Appeals, Fourth Appellate District from Riverside. This high court hears appeals from cases in our area and others. The Justices take part in what they call Outreach Plus – a way to inform the public about the court.

The Fourth District justices visited Bishop in the past as part of their community outreach program. The Third District traveled to Mammoth Lakes for the same program.4th_district.jpg

The justices actually hear oral arguments. They will set up court at Bishop High School auditorium this Thursday at 9:30am. They will hear arguments in two criminal appeals – one on kidnapping and rape, the other on a robbery case.

The Outreach Plus program started almost three years ago. The program is designed to interest students in a career in law and to familiarize communities with the court.

Some 1,000 students from Inyo County will meet the court.

Our local court, school and attorneys worked with the Court of Appeal to make this event happen.
