Will Richmond, Alpine County DA

Will Richmond, current District Attorney of Alpine County, will go to work in the Inyo DA’s office on a temporary appointment to the Assistant DA position, according to Inyo’s county administrator.

That position became vacant after former assistant Mark Johnston retired following a controversy. The term of Alpine DA Richmond will end after the first of the year. He will reportedly come to work for Inyo the week of October 4th.

Inyo County Administrator Kevin Carunchio confirmed Richmond’s temporary appointment and said that the work to fill the position permanently continues. District Attorney Art Maillet has declined to speak to reporters so we could not receive his comment on the reports.

Richmond would be expected to help the DA’s office which currently faces two murder cases on top of the regular case load.

Reports out of Alpine County said that Richmond had decided to run for the position of Alpine Superior Court Judge. He could not also seek re-election as DA. He lost the bid for judge.

Richmond became known to the Eastern Sierra much earlier when he worked with Mono District Attorney George Booth on legal matters surrounding the Owens Gorge and the settlement of the lawsuit against DWP by Mono.
