The Big Pine Warriors remain the No. 1-ranked team in the CIF-Southern Section 8-Man Division II poll this week following their

34-28 non-league win Friday night over North County Christian at Atascadero High.

“It was a big-time atmosphere,” Big Pine coach Mark Tillemans said.

“Under the lights, big crowd. And it was football should be about:

Great sportsmanship, hard-hitting, fun game.”

The Warriors (4-0) trailed 22-18 at halftime, but allowed just six points in the second half. “That was the game plan,” Tillemans said.

“Stay close and win it in the second half. We feel like our conditioning is just about as good as anyone. We were really physical, and wore them down.”

North County Christian, ranked No. 9 last week, is now 3-1.

Chance Colvin had another huge game for Big Pine, catching 8 passes for

167 yards and three touchdowns. Colvin also had 60 yards rushing on 10 carries, and returned a kickoff 72 yards for a TD. He also had nine tackles on defense.

Quarterback David Seymour was 12-of-17 passing for 193 yards and those three TDs. Seymour also converted two 2-point PATs and had five tackles.

Rusty Tillemans had 80 yards rushing and a TD on 16 carries, with nine tackles.

Skylar Amisone (13 tackles), Jose Limas (seven tackles), Dustin Newman (six tackles and fumble recovery) and Mike Mason (caused fumble) all contributed defensively.

Holden Rangel and Colton Carrington did “great work” up front, coach Tillemans said.

Big Pine hosts Lighthouse Christian (No. 5 last week) Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Lone Pine 8-man football team dropped a Hi-Lo League game Friday to visiting Trona, 46-34. The Tornadoes were ranked No. 4 last week in the Division II poll while the Golden Eagels were ranked No. 10 in the Division I poll.

Chacho Serna was 10 of 23 passing for 223 yds and 2 TDs. He also carried the ball 10 times for 46 yards, had 12 tackles, blocked a punt and caused a safety.

Levi Whistler had 6 carries for 44 yard and 27-yd TD run. He caught

4 passes for 153 yards, including a 70-yard TD. Whisler also threw a 30-yard TD pass to Jeremy Pierce and had 18 tackles on defense.

Jeremy Pierce had 25 yards rushing and two receptions fro 50 yards, including a 30-yard TD from Whistler. He also had 16 tackles on defense.

Cord Hunter scored two TDs on a 10-yard run and a 13-yard pass while doing a great job lead blocking. Hunter had a sack, and recovered a fumble with and 6 tackles on defense.

Chris Muniz caught 4 passes for 51 yards and had 10 tackles.

Luis Rodriguez had two sacks and nine tackles while Dustin Newell had a sack and four tackles and Andrew Howe also had a sack and five tackles and James Linneman also played well, LP coaches said.

Lone Pine is 2-2 overall and in Hi-Lo League play. The Golden Eagles will host Cornerstone Christian on Friday.
