The 14th annual ICARE dinner has come and gone and event organizers want to thank the community for their help raising money for local pets.

ICARE co-founder Ted Schade says that about 700 people came out to the Saturday night dinner catered by Whiskey Creek and sponsored by Union Bank and DWP. The young men and women with the 4-H also worked hard to serve the large crowd as in past years. Schade reports that the dinner didnt set the record for money raised, but it was close.

Lisa Schade explained that raffle tickets for a dog-themed quilt donated by the Quilters in Stitches raised $4,000. The 50/50 drawing would have raised over $2000 but that number was doubled when the winner, Ted Pederson, donated his half right back to ICARE.

All in all, the ICARE dinner raised $30,000 that partially funds the low cost spay/neuter program. ICARE helps to pay for spay/neuter surgeries for over 800 cats and dogs each year at a cost of $35,000. ICARE’s Spay/Neuter Program has reduced euthanized pets at the Inyo County Animal Shelter by 92%, from 970 pet deaths in 1996 down to 80 in 2009.

Lisa Schade says We are fortunate to live in such a generous and caring community, and adds that, The ICARE Board extends a very sincere thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters.
