On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at approximately 3:00 A.M., a Mono County Sheriff’s Deputy was responding to call for service when he came upon a traffic collision on US 395, north of Conway Summit. The Sheriff’s Deputy requested assistance from the California Highway Patrol (CHP). One officer and one sergeant were “called out” from their residences and responded to the scene.
After arriving and upon questioning the passenger, Ms. Aisia D. Palma, age 33, of Mesa, Arizona, officers learned the driver likely fled the scene following the collision. The vehicle, a 2014, Gray, Nissan, Altima, appeared to have been traveling southbound US 395, north of Conway Summit when the driver lost control, veered left and collided with the dirt embankment. Ms. Palma displayed obvious signs of impairment related to drug use. Probable cause was established and a search was conducted during which crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located.
Ms. Palma was ultimately arrested for felony and misdemeanor controlled substance violations. Ms. Palma was transported to the Mono County Jail in Bridgeport, California where she was booked. The Nissan was stored for safe keeping after the CHP sergeant gently wrestled Ms. Palma’s cat from under the seat. The gentle “wrestling match” involved a lot of hissing, some scratching and other feline defensive mechanisms. Ultimately, the cat settled down and was delivered into the care of Mono County County Animal Control until Ms. Palma is again available to care for her cat.
Ms. Palma had the good sense to do the cat walk away from the scene but was too wired to take a cat nap and sober up. Fortunately this ended without injury which would have been a catastrophe. Still I think the state should get her a cat scan and… Read more »
Trouble…Yeah, but the person wanting that (a job and hope) are going to have to quit, and stay off the dope for that second chance to work.
Unfortunately in these small towns and we all know this, unless your already connected within the social circles that can give you a job or a good word, you most likely won’t get a second chance, it seems like in today’s society it’s more easier to dehumanize the drug user… Read more »
wow Wayne, first time I agreed with you in years. Nothing like a second chance and a job to give a person hope.
Meth is the scourge of the earth.
Rick….Thing about it is,and hope anyone that happens to use and reads this here,it’s NOT as hard a thing to quit as some think it is or some “experts” make it out to be,even if someone happens to be a long-time user….key to it is getting FAR AWAY from the… Read more »
You say that like you’ve experienced it Wayne, but running away? seriously? and you say even without rehab? Well here’s what I think Wayne, addiction begins with pain and ends with pain, and all the addictions are a attempt to sooth the pain, so No, I wouldn’t tell them to… Read more »
Aggressive Progressive…..True,to an extent…IMO…..but if you know you got a problem, and others do too,it sure doesn’t help matters if those selling the dope or hanging around users hoping for a free handout to get high are in the picture.Once again,in my opinion, there are more reasons for people to experiment… Read more »
Yeah I see, a new environment can help when dealing with drug use, I mean I had to move out of LP to be able to graduate High School (thanks to family help), and yeah the damage done from drug abuse goes beyond just the one who is consuming it,… Read more »
Aggressive Progressive….As far as a solution to it,in my opinion,is….there is no solution to it,as far as Law Enforcement involvement and arrests go…I live in LP,and from what I see myself, sometimes a few months spent in jail can be seen as a way to “dry out” more-so than punishment…..but that… Read more »
I as well am one who is thankful that I didn’t get into trouble when I was putting myself in more invulnerable circumstances then I do now, but really, lets keep it real, when it comes to something like Marijuana, how can we be behind any penalty that is going… Read more »
