On September 14th, at about 1:30AM, Sheriff’s Dispatch was notified of a physical altercation at Statham Hall in Lone Pine.  According to the reporting party, there had been a birthday party that evening and the suspect (Julio Becerra a 28 year old man from Lone Pine) had become increasingly aggressive.  Inyo County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with the assistance from California Highway Patrol, were dispatched to the scene.

Interviews with witnesses indicated that an argument took place outside Statham Hall between Becerra and another male subject; the argument resulted in Becerra taking a machete out of his vehicle and brandishing it in a threatening manner.  Two male subjects attempted to grab hold of Becerra from behind to avoid being hit by the machete.  Becerra swung the machete behind him, striking one of the male subjects in the shoulder.  Becerra fled the scene only to return shortly afterwards.

When Becerra arrived back at the scene, a verbal altercation immediately commenced between Becerra and the girlfriend of the male subject who was initially injured by the machete.  The altercation escalated which resulted in Becerra choking the female.  Becerra was pulled off the female by bystanders, and again fled the scene.

Becerra was later located at his residence in Lone Pine and arrested without incident.  He is currently being held under (felony) assault with a deadly weapon charge; his bail has been set at $25,000.  The female victim declined treatment.  The male victim was treated at the scene and declined further medical evaluation.
