Raymond Bencoma III was arraigned Thursday in Independence on cases involving an officer-involved shooting in August.

According to Dee Shepherd, Inyo County Assistant District Attorney, Bencoma was arraigned on several charges, including:

“MBCRF-16-60014: 4 counts of felony Penal Code section 245(d), assault on an officer; one count Penal Code section 29800, felon in possession of a firearm; one count felony Penal Code section 30305, felon in possession of ammunition; one count misdemeanor 496, possession of stolen property – there are numerous enhancements as well.”

Also, MBCRF-16-16-59925: one count felony 273.5, corporal injury to a significant other.

Charges also include a traffic case: one count misdemeanor Vehicle Code section 14601.2, driving when license suspended; one count infraction 16028(a), no proof of insurance.

The Inyo DA’s office reports Bencoma plead not guilty and waived the 10-day time; but, not the 60-day time – which means the preliminary hearing won’t be done within 10-court days of the arraignment; but, will be done before November, 21, 2016.

Assistant DA Shepherd reports on MBCRF-16-59039 (the felon in possession of ammunition charge), the defense moved to vacate the jury trial set for Oct. 24 and the court granted the motion.

All cases have been set for further settlement conference on Oct. 4 at 9 a.m.
