KSRW’s Gigi Van der Reit got a head start on bike to work week.

Caltrans officials encourage local residents to pull out their bikes and ride to work as part of California Bike Commute Week.

Bike Commute Week starts Monday and runs through Friday. Caltrans District 9 Director Tom Hallenbeck and other Caltrans employees invite everyone to join their efforts to ride to work for a week as a fun and healthy alternative to our cars.

Caltrans officials say that cycling is an environmentally friendly transportation option that helps keep the air clean and your body healthy. The exercise might also be a good way to help you burn off a few pounds picked up over the winter.

Bike Commute Week is easy to participate in, you just have to get on your bike and ride to work.
