Before 9 o’clock Thursday morning, power went off all around Bishop in the Edison service areas, including the Fairgrounds – Mule Days headquarters. Spokesmen at Edison said they did not know why the outages occurred. They did say crews worked all day in the Line St. area to fix the problem. Thursday evening, Edison workers said the power would remain out in some places until about 10pm.
Electricity seemed to go off in most all areas of north Bishop. Power at KSRW went off briefly. Other businesses reported electricity going off and on. Residents at Highlands Mobile Home Park said their power had gone off.
Northern Inyo Hospital’s power went out. Spokesmen said they remained on stand-by power. The hospital continued to function normally. Next door, the Bishop Care Center also had no power at last report. Two fire trucks and an Edison truck were seen at the Care Center. Spokesmen there declined to say what had happened. They did say they believed the Care Center was not the source of the power outage.
Again, Edison spokesmen said that power would likely be restored completely by 10 pm Thursday.
