An injured boy scout had to be flown out of the Whitney region after taking a thirty foot fall off the trail.
Inyo Sheriff officials report that Inyo Search and Rescue team members were called out to the Whitney trail at about 5:45 Wednesday night for a report of a 15-year-old male from Roseville who had fallen.
Corporal Terry Waterbury reports that the victim became separated from his troop and fell about thirty feet. The young victim was found about 200 feet off the trail in the rocky terrain above the area known as Outpost Camp. A hiker in the area, used a SPOT handheld satellite distress device, to call for help.
Inyo County Search and Rescue volunteers responded and stabilized the victim for an early morning flight out on a Forest Service helicopter. He was flown to Southern Inyo Hospital with what is described as trauma to the head, chest, and face along with lacerations and abrasions on most of his body.
The young man was set to be flown out to Mercy San Juan Medical Center at last word.
