Bishop – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Scholarship Committee received a donation in the amount of $1,000 from Brown’s Supply in Bishop, CA. This sizeable donation will be combined with money raised from various Caltrans District 9 fundraisers and returned to the community in the form of High School Scholarships.
The Caltrans District 9 Scholarship Committee has been offering scholarships to graduating high school students in the District 9 area for the past 15 years. Scholarship money is raised through employee fundraisers, and private donations. A total of $63,550 in scholarships has benefitted 133 students throughout the years.
Jessica Klemencic, Caltrans District 9 Scholarship Committee Chairperson stated, “This donation is very generous and we are grateful to Brown’s Supply. Thank you Brown’s Supply!”
Caltrans encourages students to obtain degrees that are transportation-related. Caltrans currently has responsibility for 50,486 lane miles, 265 state highways, 13,063 state bridges, and numerous sidewalks, bike lanes, and mass transit installations that are built and maintained. Employees specializing in 100’s of occupations are required to provide the superior transportation system that the travelling public in the State of California deserves.
It is the Caltrans Mission to provide a safe, sustainable, integrated and efficient transportation system to enhance California’s economy and livability. This generous donation to the Caltrans District 9 Scholarship Committee is a perfect example of how Caltrans enhances California’s economy and livability, and fosters positive community relations.
