Air service in the Eastern Sierra – words that sound more like a pipe dream than an invitation to buy tickets. However, Mammoth officials say that an air charter service that mostly flies to the Grand Canyon may want to spend winters with flights to Mammoth Lakes.

Mammoth Town Manager Rob Clark said that he and others met with officials of Vision Holiday Air Charter over the week-end. Clark said that the company owns a fleet of aircraft that predominantly work summers with flights to the Grand Canyon and other places. So, they might want to build winter business in Mammoth. Clark said that company officials have carried out a number of conversations and meetings with the Town and MMSA.

If a deal forms up, Vision Air would fly 30-passenger planes during ski season to Mammoth Lakes from Las Vegas, Long Beach and Carlsbad two days per week.

Manager Clark described the exchanges with Vision Air Charter as "very serious conversations." So far, they have discussed leasing space at the Mammoth-Yosemite Airport, bag handling and de-icing of planes.
