Screen shot 2012 07 22 at 4.35.29 PMWith a breeze blowing, a bagpipe’s haunting tune and a striking color guard of local officers, a good crowd of friends, family and admirers celebrated the life of Skip Harvey of Mammoth Lakes on Saturday at Canyon Lodge.

A color guard of Mammoth Police officers and Screen shot 2012 07 22 at 4.40.34 PMMammoth firefighters opened the ceremony.  Many remembered Skip for his big heart, his love of skiing and instructing new skiers, and what it was like the day he died – Monday, July 16th.

Those who spoke conveyed what many knew – Harvey was warm-hearted and eager to serve and help people.  His years as a ski instructor underscored that quality as did his more than eight years as a member of the Mammoth Town Council. Harvey also literally served food to thousands over the years in his Base Camp Cafe.

The afternoon focused on Skip’s contributions to Mammoth Lakes and on the sad note of his passing. Doug Buchanan’s bagpipe sounded the notes of sadness and remembrance for Skip Harvey.
