CDFW press release
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will be conducting a wildlife checkpoint operation in the Eastern Sierra in early May to promote safety, education and compliance with laws and regulations.
CDFW wildlife officers will be conducting the inspection on northbound Highway 395, north of Bridgeport, on Sunday, May 1 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting.
The wildlife checkpoint is being conducted to protect and conserve fish and wildlife, and to encourage safety and sportsmanship by promoting voluntary compliance with laws, rules and regulations through education, preventative patrol and enforcement.
All anglers and hunters will be required to stop and submit to an inspection. CDFW officers and Natural Resource Volunteers will also be providing informative literature about the invasive Quagga Mussel and New Zealand Mudsnail.

Unreasonable Search and seizure without probable cause. Guarantee a motorist will inform the officer of this and they will proceed without being searched.
Know your rights, be respectful.
Tell them you haven’t been fishing or hunting and ask if you are free to go. They’ll say “thank you and have a nice day”. If your hammered drunk they’re probably going to ask you to step out of the vehicle. I really don’t have a problem with it. I… Read more »
There ya go Bob, give up all your civil rights and liberties to catch a guy trying to feed his family, running from a communist contry.
The check point is proof we’ve already given up or civil rights.
What communist Country?
Poland.
Today our Mexican brothers and sisters are celebrating Cinco de Mayo. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, I say God bless all of them. Some of the most polite people on the planet… Read more »
Mexicans DO NOT celebrate Cinco De Mayo, not like Americans do anyway; it’s an American holiday and is pretty much just a reason for Americans to drink.
Next you’ll be telling me the Irish go to churcjh on St. Patrick’s Day.
The illegals I know tell me they don’t celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Mexico.. People that come here illegally have no reason to follow our laws once they’re here. I see it every day in business. They have no problem running a out of compliance FM radio station. How would… Read more »
Bob…Be careful saying “the illegals I know…..”……the right-wing loonies are gonna post and say how “un-American and part of the problem” you are if you happen to know illegals and don’t make a big deal out of it by trying to turn them in to Law Enforcement, trying to get them… Read more »
Low,
Just tell them everyone in town would be in jail or court if we were required to report all crimes we have knowledge of.
@Bob,
You see it every day in business? Maybe you should discuss it with those who are illegally employing them. The employees are just trying to provide for their families. It’s the illegal employers who are making it attractive for them to come here looking for work.
Charles O.Jones…..and it’s kinda funny how the right-wing business owners oppose the illegals being here and working here….untill it benefits them and their low-paying wages…then it seems to be O.K….funny how that works, isn’t it ?
It’s not my job to enforce the laws of the land.
It’s law enforcement’s. So if they’re not going arrest or cite those here illegally why should I give a damn about some stupid little fish?
Tell hell with all the laws!
bob . . . your simple-minded classification of people based on what you assume about their citizenship, and based on your simplistic misunderstanding of immigration laws, combined with your belligerent dismissal of anything you find annoying, makes you a far worse citizen than most of those people you would try… Read more »
Bob…..You sound like an angry old man….like those that are ruining this Country, and are on their way out and away,in more ways than one.and a better place when they’re finally gone….with your point of view….a suggestion….move…for sure, out of this area, where most here are outdoor people and enjoy the “stupid little… Read more »
kwak……WOW !!!…..great post !!!
Lower, I don’t think Bob was being totally serious. I think he’s trying to point out some of the ripple effects we all face with our broken imagration policies.Besides, he’s probally half right.
“Competition” implies competence. If a bunch of illegal immigrants start doing better reporting on issues of local concern, I think they’d be earning our business. The same probably applies in a couple other scenarios, too.
sugarmagnolia……And because the big high priced priced restaurants and hotels, even the chain-business’,owned by billionaires, can keep the wages low on their illegal employees and continue to serve Elvis ,Marilyn Monroe and JFK when they patronize their business’.
I agree Sugar, if you want to stop the illegals from working here, prosicute the people that pay them illegally.
well then I’m glad they built a new court house in Mammoth because there’s a lot of people within TOML that need to stand in front of the judge.
You got me on that one Bob.
If the gov but the same effort towards illegal immigration as DFW does protecting a stupid little stocked invasasive species or Country would be much better place.
can’t you people figure out that the government wants the illegals here? Both parties do…because they serve big business and the rich, who want the cheap labor.
Ask any construction industry or service industry business owner, small or “big”, where their business would be without illegals or the Mexican work force? They serve all of us, you couldn’t get a cheeseburger in Bishop or Mammoth if it weren’t for them. Who would be cleaning all the motel… Read more »
Tinner….LOVE IT !!!!!!….so true…..
Tinner, you nailed it!
I don’t buy it. Just another excuse for breaking our laws.
The real reason is greed.
Bob – Do you really think the government is going to start knocking on doors shouting: ( like Rolfe from the Sound of Music) “SHOW ME DER PAPERS!” Neighbors blowing the whistle on their neighbors, support the building of a Berlin Wall (that Donald Trump says Mexico will be paying… Read more »

How did Clinton’s net worth get to 200 million.

Lower, I’d say Trump has a great chance at winning. At least the second best chance.
Well Bob, Both the Clinton and Bush families are good at getting questionable loans an having the taxpayers pick up the losses when they default. Remember whitewater and the savings and loan scandals. It’s a lot easier to make money when you don’t pay your debt and still take the… Read more »
Questionable loans: I agree and that’s just another reason why I don’t want any more Bush’s or Clinton’s in the White House.
“How did Clinton’s net worth get to 200 million. someone help me out” So you’ve figured out how to comment on a website but you can’t use Google? It took less than ten seconds to find out that the Clinton’s income between 2000 and 2008 was $109 million. Why? Best-selling… Read more »

Low-Inyo, your thinking is simply stunning. You would make Vidkun Quisling very proud!
Check out Gavin Newson’s latest assault on your rights.
Know your history. They always take away your rights “for your own good”. Of course the government knows best.
What makes this incredible is it is for fish.
LOW INYO, I can’t believe you could possibly be that un-american. Stand up for our country ….believe in our founding fathers and the constitution. Don’t let fear allow you to throw your morals out the window.

I don’t see how this can possibly be legal under the Constitution. Reasonable Suspicion is needed to detain a vehicle and Probable Cause is needed to search a vehicle. I think this is a GREAT idea…many SoCalers (which is surprising why the article states check-point “north’ of Bridgeport) come up here and do as they please, including poaching wildlife and over-limiting on trout, especially on opening week-end.I can remember one time a few years back,at Tuff Campground-Tom’s Place,I witnessed a truckfull… Read more »
Perfect, just what we need. more violations of our rights. “Will be required to stop and submit to an inspection”. Even though I am doing nothing wrong, I will still have my vehicle searched. What an absolute joke.
I’m not sure how they’ll do it, but the article says ‘anglers and hunters are required to stop’. That means if you weren’t fishing or hunting you DO NOT HAVE TO STOP. I have to assume they will have a message sign directing those people to pull over into the… Read more »
