On Saturday September 6, 2014, at approximately 2:45 P.M., Mr. John J. Zehner, age 61, of Folsom, California, was riding his Honda, VTX 1800 motorcycle eastbound on State Route 108, west of the Sonora Pass, approaching a curve in the roadway.

Preliminary information indicates Mr. Zehner was unable to negotiate the curve and lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the roadway and slid into the opposing lane where it came to rest. Mr. Zehner was ejected off the motorcycle and slid in a south easterly direction coming to rest in the brush south of the roadway.

California Highway Patrol, Mono County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), United States Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center Fire Department, Mono County Sheriff’s Department and United States Forrest Service Law Enforcement personnel responded to the scene. Thankfully, Mr. Zehner was wearing appropriate safety gear and his injuries appeared relatively minor. Mr. Zehner was transported by ground ambulance to Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville, Nevada, by Mono County EMS Medic One for treatment.
