chpOn Monday, Highway Patrol Officers arrested a 58-year-old man from Olancha after a vehicle accident that ended in major injuries to a young man from Bakersfield.

Highway Patrol Officers report that Gary Duane Nupen was driving a 2009 Toyota northbound on 395 at about 50 miles per hour when due to his level of intoxication, he turned in front of an oncoming motorcycle near the Olancha Trailer Park. The motorcycle, driven by a 16-year-old male from Bakersfield, hit the side of the Toyota. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and landed in the northbound lane of 395. CHP reports that the young man suffered major injuries and was transported to Southern Inyo Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota, Nupen, was arrested for DUI.
