Marred only by power outages, periodic high winds and traffic mishaps, the holiday brought thousands of visitors to the Easternmmsa12-20 Sierra and tons more snow.

Mammoth Mountain reported an additional 13 to 20 inches of snow on New Year’s Day for a total base of 11 to 18 feet of fresh power, packed powder and machine groomed snow.

Crowds added up to big numbers above 20,000 skiers and snowboarders on several days.

Before New Year’s Eve, power went down in Old Mammoth for many hours. At the same time, wind created white-outs on Highway 395 causing road closures and spin-outs.

In one case in Bishop the severely soaking rain over two days followed by the high winds caused a tree to actually uproot and crash down on a nearby pick-up truck on Wildrose Lane in Bishop. No one was hurt.
