A professional bike rider for about 25 years fell victim to a freak accident on Highway 203 on Sunday.chp_logo

According to the CHP office in Bridgeport, 68-year-old Robert Brooks of Auberry, CA, was riding a 2006 Scott bicycle, along with another cyclist. Officers said while riding on the right shoulder traveling eastbound on Highway 203 at about 30 miles per hour Brooks failed to see a piece of wood. The CHP said his front tire hit the wood and sent his bike into a high speed wobble for about 130 feet. The man was ejected over the handlebars and landed in the eastbound number 2 lane.

Brooks suffered serious injuries – broken bones, internal injuries and abrasions. The CHP said his family was notified. Brooks was rushed to Mammoth Hospital.
