On the main street of Independence, DWP crews today finished off what the wind started Saturday night. The incredibly high winds literally tore off the front of a big warehouse building that used to sit on the corner of Highway 395 here.demolition.jpg

Today, DWP demolition crews went to work to tear down the rest of the building and haul it to the dump.

Meanwhile, in Lone Pine, Inyo Sheriff Bill Lutze and staff moved the Sheriff's Substation to a new building right off the highway. Sheriff Lutze has worked on this improvement for some time. He said that Rural County funding and money from fines and penalties contributed to paying for the move.

Sheriff Lutze said that he want to make a move that would cause the substation to have a higher profile and accessibility from the highway for better public service.
