In a dramatic crash on Highway 395 just north of Paiute Palace Casino, the driver of a pick up drove into a closed lane in an area of road work and smashed head on into a parked backhoe.

The loud collision drew lots of attention, and officers said the driver and his passenger immediately fled from the scene. Highway Patrol and Sheriff’s deputies responded immediately. Some officers handled the accident scene while others searched the Indian reservation area for the two suspects.

The CHP said that 36 year old Faylene Laura Montoya was driving the 1993 pick up. Her passenger was 26 year old Brandon Williams. Ms. Montoya, according to the CHP, was driving south on 395 just south of Brockman Lane. She drove through the cones into the southbound #2 lane that was closed for construction.

The CHP said the woman collided with a backhoe. The front of the truck was severely smashed. Officers said that Montoya and Williams fled the scene without notifying anyone. Officers said they later found Montoya in a field off Brockman hiding in a patch of wild rose bushes. She was arrested for misdemeanor hit and run and driving under the influence. Officers found Williams on Brockman Lane north of Diaz. He was arrested for public intoxication.
