After flipping a Ford truck upside down, a driver ran off into the night leaving CHP officers to search.

At about 8:45 pm Tuesday, officers report that a Lone Pine CHP Officer tried to pull over a 1999 Ford truck for driving erratically. The driver reportedly pulled over onto the shoulder south of Carroll Creek Road, but took off when the officer got out of his patrol vehicle. The officer chased after the truck for thirty miles at speeds up to 95 miles per hour, until the pick up made a left turn onto a power line road north of the Coso Rest Area.

Officers report that the truck drove down a steep ravine and overturned onto its roof, but the driver was apparently unhurt and fled on foot. Inyo Sheriff Deputies and CHP officers searched the area but did not find the driver. The area was searched again Wednesday morning by helicopter, but at news time officers had not found the driver.

Why the driver took off is not known, but officers believe the truck may have been stolen. Who the driver was is also not known.
