Mammoth Mountain’s Night of Lights celebration was a go, at last report, in the face of the major winter storm on the way.

Friday, December 17th at 8pm at Canyon Lodge the movie, ‘Deeper’ – A Snowboard Adventure into the Unknown, premiers in Mammoth Lakes. This Teton Gravity Research film follows Jeremy Jones and other notable snowboard athletes, including former Mammoth resident Seth Lightcap, as they venture unsupported, deep into the Alaskan backcountry to ride extreme, exposed, and remote peaks. Meet Jeremy and Seth at the movie premier and after party hosted by Auld Dubliner. Tickets at $15 per person are available at Footloose sports and at http://www.tgrtix.com/tickets/deeper/. A portion of the ticket sales and proceeds from the after party will benefit the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center. The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center hosts a Level 1 Avalanche course this weekend. This three-day course from December 18th to 20th, presented by Sierra Mountain Center will be held at the White Mountain Research Station in Bishop. The course provides a complete introduction to the avalanche phenomenon, avalanche terrain, decision making, and rescue. On Saturday, December 18th the Night of Lights returns to Mammoth Mountain with a festival of fireworks, a torchlight parade, live music show by Donovan Frankenreiter and the Red Bull Air Force. Playhouse 395 presents “An evening of real dance, theater and entertainment”, choreographed and directed by Dennis Wayne, on Saturday, December 18th at the Bishop High School Auditorium. Show times are 2:30pm and 7:00pm and tickets are $10 for Adults and $5 for Children. Purchase tickets at the box office at 168 W. Line Street, Bishop or at the door. The 6th Annual Independence Fruitcake Festival takes place on Sunday, December 19th at 4pm atthe American Legion Hall in Independence. Presented by the Independence Civic Club the festival provides a showcase for local talent onstage and off-stage with awards presented for fruitcake perfection in many categories. The theme this year is “America’s Got Fruitcakes” and a fruitcake or eggnog is the required entry fee to attend the festival.
