So far, two Mammoth attorneys have jumped into the ring of the June Election. They are candidates for the Superior Court Judge spot.mono_courthouse_10-08

Mark Magit, Assistant County Counsel for Mono County, did take out petitions in lieu of filing fees to run for Judge. Current Judge Ed Forstenzer issued an official statement to say he will not seek re-election, and will retire from office in April after 22 years on the bench.

As we had earlier reported, attorney Randy Gephart has also confirmed he will run for the judge spot. Gephart has worked as an attorney for some 30 years of which 13 have been spent as a Mono County Public Defender.

These are the other people who have taken out petitions in lieu of filing fees in Mono: Supervisor District 1 Larry Johnston and Bill Sauser, Assessor Jody Henning, Sheriff Rick Scholl, County School Superintendent Catherine Hyatt, and District Attorney George Booth.

inyo_courthouseIn Inyo County, Assistant County Clerk Kammi Foote has taken out petitions to run for County Clerk. Current Clerk Mary Roper announced she will not seek re-election.

In Supervisor District 3 Karen Ball Summers of Bishop has taken out petitions to run against Supervisor Bev Brown. Treasurer Alicia McMurtry has a challenger Jeff Buss, who took out petitions.

These are the other people who have taken out petitions in Inyo: County School Superintendent Terry McAteer, Assessor Tom Lanshaw, Auditor Leslie Chapman, Sheriff Bill Lutze, Supervisor Linda Arcularius, District Attorney Art Maillet, and Coroner Leon Brune.

The filing deadline for petitions in lieu of filing fees is February 25th. Then as of February 16th, candidates may file Declaration of Candidacy forms and nomination papers. The last day to file is March 12th. Candidates for the Mammoth Town Council file their papers starting February 16th. There is no filing fee to run for Mammoth Council.
