Two dogs were in the vehicle as well.  One dog survived  and was transported by Mono County Animal Control for treatment. Personnel from the California Highway Patrol, Mono County Medic 3 , Mono County Sheriff’s Office, Mono County Search and Rescue, and Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to the scene.

A 48-year-old Bakersfield woman was killed after an accident on State Route 168 Saturday.

Deann Marie Dodd was driving her 2013 Harley Davidson Switchback eastbound on SR-168 east of Death Valley Rd. at an estimated speed of 50-60 miles per hour just after 3 pm.

For an unknown reason, Dodd failed to negotiate the left curve in the roadway. Dodd made an unsafe turning movement and allowed her motorcycle to travel off of the south edge of SR-168. Dodd applied her motorcycle’s brakes and left tire friction marks on the dirt shoulder as she tried to stop.

Dodd traveled down a dirt/brush embankment into a ditch. Dodd’s motorcycle collided with the uphill side of the dirt/brush embankment, causing it to overturn. As the motorcycle began to overturn, Dodd was ejected and collided with the dirt/brush embankment.

Dodd received major injuries from the collision and was transported to Northern Inyo Hospital by the Big Pine Fire Department. She was pronounced deceased at 5:56 pm.
