Fire Fighters with the Lone Pine Volunteers and Calfire were called out to a vehicle fire on Granite View Drive above the town of Lone Pine at about 9:00 am Friday morning.

On scene the firefighters found a station wagon fully engulfed in flames. Neighbor Russ Monroe sent pictures of what he believes was the gas tank igniting, that in turn sent a column of black smoke into the morning air.

Lone Pine Fire Chief Leroy Kritz explained that the owner of the vehicle had just driven up to ta house, took a few things into the house, and when she returned to the vehicle, found that the car had caught fire. What caused the car fire is not known for certain.

The car was completely destroyed, but the fire did not spread very far into the surrounding brush so fire fighters were able to control the blaze after making the drive up to the home site.
