Tuesday afternoon fire fighters were sent out to fight a fire burning in the Bishop area. Bishop Volunteers, Forest Service and CalFire all responded to the call for a vehicle fire on the Coyote Flat road.

By 1:00 pm a plume of dark smoke from the burning vehicle was visible from Highway 168. The vehicle fire was located on one of the switchbacks on the Coyote road, so this fire was listed as the Switchback Fire.

Fire fighters did drive to the scene of the fire and the Forest Service helicopter flew loads of water to the site high on the hillside above town.

With breezy conditions, there is always the risk of the fire spreading to the surrounding brush, but fire fighters kept the fire contained to the vehicle and a five foot by seven foot patch of brush.

Forest Service officials say that no one was injured in the vehicle fire.
