In case you had not noticed, flu season has reached a peak. Eastern Sierra Public Health Officer, Dr. Rick Johnson sent out flushotinformation to say influenza surveillance systems in the U.S. began to detect an increase of flu in mid-December which continued to increase into February when, typically, peak flu activity occurs. Dr. Johnson said substantial flu activity can occur as late as May. He says it’s not too late to get vaccinated.

Dr. Johnson said that vaccination remains the most effective method to prevent the flu and its complications. The vaccine out this season, Dr. Johnson said, is a good match for the actual viruses circulating this flu season. Dr. Johnson also assured that it’s not too late to get vaccinated.

Statistics show that those hospitalized with influenza are usually young children or older adults.

You can check in with your doctor or local health department for more information.
