David Lee of Bishop researches rock art.

In ancient times up to the recent, Native Americans have created art on rocks. These fascinating creations have become the subject of considerable study. Locally, David Lee of Bishop has spent 15 years documenting and studying rock art. Thursday evening, he will talk about his project and research.

Lee says that the Owens Valley is home to a world-class collection of Native American rock art yet little is known about it. Lee said that in the last few years there has been a renewed effort to document and study these important clues, as he puts it, into the spiritual lives of earlier Eastern Sierra people.

Lee’s free lecture on rock art research in the Owens Valley happens Thursday at 7pm at the White Mountain Research Station at 3000 E. Line St.
