Councilman Ellis remains in a re-hab facility.

Bishop City Councilman Jim Ellis remains in a special rehab facility as the result of a serious head injury sustained during a fishing trip to Arizona.  Last Friday, the Bishop Lions Club with many others presented a large fundraising dinner for Ellis and his family.

It was in February when Ellis went on a trip with friends, including Police Chief Chris Carter and others.  Chief Carter had reported that Ellis was riding in the rear-facing seat of an electric car when he stepped off the vehicle before it came to a complete stop.  He struck his head and was knocked unconscious.

Initially, Ellis was transported to a local hospital and then to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.  Chief Carter and Councilman Ellis’s family said his prognosis was good.  Friends confirmed that Mr. Ellis remains in a brain injury rehab facility in Davis, is doing well and is anxious to come home.

Meanwhile, 450 people showed their support for Ellis by attending the Lions Club fundraiser for Councilman Ellis on Friday at the Charles Brown Auditorium.  Ken Lloyd of the Lions Club said two live bands played, door prizes were offered and close to $8,000 was raised for the Ellis family.

The Lions Club bought the food for a spaghetti dinner and Mark Jenkins served as chef with help from Duane Rossi. Lloyd said many volunteers made the event happen.  Budweiser, Eastern Sierra Distributors, and Gillespie Distributors provided drinks as did Kyle Oney of Manor Market’s Wine Barrel.
