Fishing registers high on many scales this time of year. The new Bishop Creek Canyon Summer Classic Trout Derby is under way right now through the Bishop Chamber of Commerce. It’s a month-long contest through the end of June. With grant sponsorship from Inyo County, the Chamber planted $5,000 of Alpers Trout in the Bishop Creek area with another $5,000 available in prizes. 35 tagged Alpers Trout have been placed in the still water fisheries of Bishop Creek Canyon – Lake Sabrina, South Lake, North Lake, Intake II and Weir Pond. Tags correspond to prize amounts of $50 to $500. Sign up at the Chamber.

The first tagged Alpers caught in this photo of Gabriel Figueroa of Alta Loma who caught this 8 pound plus fish at Intake II. He also claimed a $50 cash reward.

And, ahead, the Independence trout fishing derby Father’s Day week-end, Saturday June 14th with weigh-in at 4pm at Dehy Park. It’s a Blind bogey event with lots of cash and prizes. For More info, call 878-2037.
