Gwen Judd used to keep people in Bishop in line on their parking habits, and she spread good cheer in the process. Gwen died January 20th at Northern Inyo Hospital at the age of 81.
Gwen was a familiar site, with her chalk stick and her parking enforcement vehicle, buzzing around town. Somehow when she wrote a ticket and left it on the windshield, it didn’t seem so bad since she was so good-humored.
Gwen’s family said she moved to Bishop in 1958, raised her children and then went to work for the Bishop Police Department as a crossing guard and then as the parking enforcement officer. They said she loved her job and retired after 28 years.
Gwen also served 9 years on the Bishop Park Commission and 4 years on the city planning Commission. She was vice-president and then president of Jr. Woman’s Club and she was a leader in 4-H.
She cared about others and made sure candy for Halloween went to businesses, kids, senior centers and the hospital. Christmas was the same story.
Her family said Gwen never met a stranger and with her quick wit, contagious laugh and smile she had many loyal friends. She is survived by two daughters and one son and many other relatives. Funeral services for Gwen are Friday, January 29th, at 1pm at Brune Mortuary Chapel.
