The local election scene continues to take shape with new additions to the various races for local office. Most recently – Therese Hankel in the Mono Judge race and Gerard Harvey in the Inyo District Attorney race.

Controversial Lawyer Gerard Harvey will run for DA.

The time period to turn in petitions in lieu of filing fees has ended, though there is still time to pay fees and file before the March 12th deadline.

In Mono County, Tim Fesko has officially entered the District 4 Supervisorial Race. In this race to fill the seat left by Bill Reid’s death, Fesko joins Bobby Tems who is also officially running.

In Mono Supervisorial District 1, Larry Johnston and Bill Sauser have officially filed to run. In Mono District 5, so far current Supervisor Byng Hunt is running unopposed for another term on the board.

Hunt is not the only incumbent running unopposed at last word. Jody Henning has filed to run for Assessor, George Boothe is running unopposed for District Attorney, and Rick Scholl is running for Mono County Sheriff.

Mammoth Attorney Therese Hankel

filed, Attorney Randy Gephardt has filed to run for judge, and now Attorney Therese Hankel has filed to run for judge as well. Hankel has served on public boards in the past and has practiced law in Mammoth and the Eastern Sierra for a number of years. She has most recently been in the news as attorney for Mammoth Dog Teams’ Jim Ouimet who struggles with the County over a facility.

In Inyo County, Jeff Buss has filed to run against incumbent Treasurer Tax Collector Alisha McMurtrie.

Incumbent District Attorney Art Maillet has filed to run for re-election, but will face a challenger. Attorney Gerard Harvey has officially filed to run for office. Maillets office has charged Harvey with witness intimidation in a case that is ongoing. Harvey says that he decided to run after receiving what he describes as a very positive response while gathering signatures to run. Harvey has pointed a finger at the DAs office for “overcharging defendants” and, as he put it, caring more about personalities than the law.

For Supervisor in District 1, incumbent Linda Arcularius has filed and is currently running unopposed. For District 3 Supervisor, retiring Bishop City Administrator Rick Pucci has filed to run. Karen Summers had taken out papers to run and incumbent Supervisors Beverly Brown has said that she plans to run again, but neither had filed to run at last word.
