Buy it Where You Burn It

Inyo National Forest

Help stop the spread of invasive plants and disease while recreating on your forests.

Our forests are threatened by non-native insects and diseases that can kill trees. Goldspotted oak borer, sudden oak death, pitch canker, emerald ash borer, and others can be transported long distances on firewood. One transported, they can become established and kill trees that have not built natural resistance to these insects and diseases.

You can help:

  • Leave firewood at home. Buy or collect firewood where you camp.
  • Use firewood in the same county or region where it was cut.
  • Bring only what you will need and burn responsibly.

As always, please be careful when building campfires, never leave them unattended, and make sure they are dead out when you leave.

You can be part of the solution. Help protect California’s trees, wildlife habitat, and reduce wildfire risk.
