Peggy Henderson, a former Crowley Lake Resident, has been sentenced to prison in Nevada on embezzlement charges. Henderson still awaits sentencing in Mono County on separate embezzlement charges.
In June of 2008, Peggy Henderson of Crowley Lake was charged with embezzlement from a local business. She was accused of embezzling a significant amount of money from Bills Appliance between February of 2006 and February of 2008. The Mono County case was close to being wrapped up as Henderson was set to be sentenced in February. That sentence may have to wait until Henderson gets out of prison in Nevada.
As Henderson was moving through the legal system in Mono County, she found a new job at Bobs Performance Center, an auto repair shop in Gardnerville, Nevada. The owner of that business discovered the crime in January of this year, and reported the acts to authorities. Henderson was alleged to have taken $50,000 in this case.
Mono District Attorney George Booth reports that Henderson was sentenced Monday to five years in prison, of which she will serve a minimum of 18 months.
Meanwhile, Henderson awaits sentencing in the Mono County case. Booth explained that its possible Henderson could be sentenced while in prison in Nevada. Its also possible that the sentencing will have to wait until Henderson gets out of prison. Either way, she is not off the hook and will have to serve the California sentence after the Nevada sentence.
The owner of the auto shop did not ask for restitution in the case, but Booth says that he plans to seek restitution in the Mono County case.
