Another windy day, another human caused fire on the Owens River.

At about 5:00 Saturday evening, Calfire, Bishop Fire and others were called out to the Owens River south of Line Street to fight a brush fire. The fire was burning in thick brush along the river area sending a smoke plume into the sky above Bishop.

It looked like firefighters had the majority of the flames knocked down in an hour or so, but Calfire Captain Craig Williams reports that the fire wasnt officially considered controlled until about 8:00 AM Monday morning. The fire was contained at 48 acres in size.

Right now, the fire remains under investigation but is listed as human caused. Captain Williams says that the fire appeared to be two separate fires that joined into one. Both of the fires may have started near roads, he explained.
