Before the new year, someone in a military fly-over spotted what looked like car wreckage off Father Crowley Point in Death Valley. The Inyo Sheriff’s Department, Search and Rescue, the CHP and Park Service continue to investigate that discovery.
Inyo Sheriff’s Detective Andy Marsh said that the personnel involved in the military fly-over called the CHP with the report that they saw a vehicle down a steep ravine. Members of the Inyo Search and Rescue team hiked in to the site where they found a wrecked jeep Cherokee and human remains.
Officer Marsh said that the human bones and teeth are under investigation. He said that the Inyo Sheriff’s Department continues to work with the Coroner and other Los Angeles area agencies to identify the victim.
Officer Marsh did say it is believed the victim was a man and possibly last heard from August 1st.
