In late December, a military plane flying over the Panamint Valley spotted a wrecked vehicle off the edge of Father Crowley Point. Inyo Sheriff and SAR personnel went down to the wreckage of a 2002 Jeep Cherokee where they recovered human remains. Close to two months later, the Inyo Sheriffs Department has positively identified the remains as 66 year old Paul Dennis Shea from Homestead Florida.

With remains that may have been over the edge since August, the coroner and Inyo Officers had to get dental records from a dentist in Massachusetts to positively identify the victim.

According to a press release, the Coroners Office is working with family members to have the remains of Paul Shea returned home. Sheriff Officers report that the cause of death has been ruled accidental.
