Work to identify the human remains found in Death Valley continues. As we had reported, prior to the new year, Inyo Sheriff's officers responded to a report of car wreckage over Father Crowley Point in Death Valley – a steep drop off from the highway. Human remains were found below. The Inyo Coroner's office continues to investigate the bones found there.father_crowley.jpg

Officers had reported that military personnel from Edwards Air Force Base had spotted s vehicle off the roadway down a steep ravine. Law Enforcement had responded and found a 2002 jeep at the bottom of the point. Officers said the wreckage was not new and that they had found skeletal remains nearby, as well as some personal notes and documents believed to belong to the driver and victim.

Inyo Search and Rescue personnel retrieved the remains and personal items. The Inyo County Coroner's Office and Inyo Sheriff's Department began investigating the identity of the remains.

Deputy Coroner Jeff Mullenhour said that officials had no more information to disclose. He did say that they retrieved some bone fragments which may be a jawbone and may assist in establishing an identity.
