Every year, the small town of Independence looks forward to a spectacular fireworks show put on by the Independence Volunteer Fire Department. The Fourth of July remains very special to the town fireworkswith the name of Independence. With the downturn in economy, the fire department has a rough time with collection of enough funds to pay for the fireworks – just to break even.

They have ordered the fireworks they need and still remain short of funds.  If anyone can help, please send checks to Independence Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Drawer B, Independence, CA 93526.  You can also call Assistant Fire Chief Joe Capello to let him know what you can send.  His number is 760-920-1108.

Also, enjoy the Fourth of July in Independence with the ever-popular parade at 10am down Main Street.  At Dehy Park find the Lions Club breakfast, kids games and a BBQ dinner.  An arts and crafts show will unfold on the courthouse lawn. It’s an old-fashioned Fourth of July.
