Press release
Inyo County History Day will be held on Monday, March 13th, 2017 at Jill Kinmont Booth School at 5pm.  The theme for this year’s contest is: Taking a Stand in History.
Students have chosen to research topics such as: The fight against Railroad monopolies, the first two women in space, Alice Piper, Fannie Lou Hamer, and much more!
Inyo County Superintendent of Schools sponsors this contest for students in grades 4-12.  The goals of the program are to engage students and teachers in historical research, and also to empower students with research skills, critical thinking skills, and outlets for creative expression, which will enhance their academic abilities in all areas of study.
Students from all school districts in Inyo County are eligible to participate in the competition.  Students can create a poster, website, performance, documentary, exhibit, or write a paper. Each school first holds their own History Day Competition, then a select number of students proceed to Inyo County History Day, California History Day, and potentially, National History Day www.nhd.org where students can earn thousands of dollars in prizes, scholarships, and other national academic recognition.
For the Inyo County History Day student participants, gift certificates to Range and River Books have been donated by Altrusa, and tickets to The Folk Collection concert for entrants and their families have been donated by Bishop Community Concerts Association.
Judges this year are: Dr. Lisa Fontana, Kathy Zack, Ilissa Twomey and Lo Lyness.
The public is encouraged to attend Inyo County History Day.
