Ralph Joseph Kenney, 94, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, December 17, 2015 in Bishop, California.

He was born to the late Ralph and Jennie (Horne) Kenney on May 10, 1921 in Venice, CA.  Ralph graduated from Venice High School in 1939.  Following this, he became a Los Angeles Lifeguard.

While living in Venice, Ralph met and married his wife Beverly in 1942. They were the proud parents of two sons, Richard and Paul. They were married for 60 years until Beverly’s death in 2003.

Ralph proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during WW II as a Motor Machinist/ 2nd class.  He was stationed on 3 different L.S.T. ships, all over the South Pacific.

After the war’s end, Ralph returned home and started a career as a Los Angeles City Fireman.  He retired from the L.A.F.D.  after 22 years.

Upon retirement, he and Beverly moved to Bishop, CA. in 1968.  They spent the next 16 years running 2 rural mail routes and enjoying life with family and friends in the Owen’s Valley. They belonged to the Bishop Golf Club and he was also the Post Commander of the Bishop V.F.W.  in 1976.

During the mid 1980’s, they relocated to Brookings, OR.  Using this area as their home base, they became snow birds and spent the next 20 years traveling around the country.

For the last 4 years, Ralph has been living back in Bishop to be closer to family.  Upon his passing, he was predeceased by his wife Beverly and son Paul.  He is survived by his son, Richard and his wife Cathie; his daughter-in-law, Karen; his grandchildren, Shannon, Chris, John and Michael as well as 7 great-grand children; and 1 great-great grandchild.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
