TV viewers in Inyo County almost lost the ABC affiliate out of Reno. That’s Channel 8, which frequently reports on our local weather and about Reno where lots of Eastern Sierra folks visit.

In earlier weeks, Suddenlink Cable had informed customers that in the environment of transition to high definition TV, KOLO would no longer appear on the local system.

Customers objected. One of them, Chuck Kilpatrick of Bishop, went to work to keep KOLO. He recently met with the president and general manager of KOLO, along with some of the on-air personalities.

Lots of letters and calls from customers convinced them they should stay on the cable system in Bishop. Suddenlink officials confirmed that matters were re-negotiated and that KOLO will stay on the air for Inyo County.

The high definition transition does not affect any other television service in the Eastern Sierra.
