From: Ralph Obenberger, Mono County Sheriff / Coroner
I am announcing that I have filed candidate nomination papers seeking to continue serving the residents of Mono County as their Sheriff/Coroner.
Since being unanimously endorsed and appointed by the Mono County Board of Supervisors, I have made significant changes within the Sheriff’s Office to enhance law enforcement safety for Mono County.
These positive changes include permanently assigning a deputy sheriff to our school campuses to enhance security and to interact with the children, a proactive stance on fighting criminal and narcotic issues in both the county areas and Town of Mammoth Lakes, and obtaining funding of nearly $250,000.00 from the Community Corrections Partnership for upgrading technologies for jail security and dispatch services.
I have served Mono County residents since 2000 when I was hired as a June Lake Resident Deputy. I have raised my family in Mono County. My children attended and graduated from Mono County Schools and I have volunteered for many local groups and organizations. These experiences give me a unique perspective on what it takes to meet the diverse law enforcement needs of our communities.
The Sheriff’s Office has vast responsibilities far beyond routine patrol. I interact daily with county, state and other justice partners. We manage a jail facility, coroner duties, Office of Emergency Services, search and rescue, court security, off highway vehicle programs, boating safety programs, and dispatch services for a multitude of emergency service and public safety allied agencies. Most importantly I manage our many budgets in a fiscally responsible manner. I have experience and additional training in all of these areas of operations. I have managed all of our budgets for the past six years and each budget was adhered to.
As your Sheriff I enjoy interacting with the citizens and visitors of Mono County. They are the ones who we help on a daily basis. They are the ones who receive courteous and professional law enforcement service from my staff. The people of Mono County can be proud of the Mono County Sheriff’s Office, as I know I am very proud of the Office itself and each and every employee who works for me.
I have the support and endorsement from the Mono County Public Safety Officer’s Association, Mono County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, Mono County Fire Chiefs Association, local business owners, along with current and former government officials. With these I will continue to move the Sheriff’s Office forward into the next four years.
Managing the Mono County Sheriff’s Office is a job that I love. With my background, knowledge and expertise I look forward to continuing to serve as your Sheriff/Coroner.
With that, I am seeking your approval and vote on June 3rd.
Respectfully,
Ralph Obenberger, Mono County Sheriff/Coroner

How did that election go for you?
Buh-Bye!
Would never ever consider voting for Obenberger while he still employs Weber.
I have to say you are spot on about Weber, but don’t forget who mentored him and allowed him to continue his behavior for years…Obenberger, Obenberger, Obenberger! He personally recommended him to be his Undersheriff, which obviously means he approves of his unprofessional antics and promotes them. I see that… Read more »
MtnHiker, even without all the other issues regarding Obenberger’s lack of qualifications, the very idea that Obenberger knowing what he knows about Weber, would make him the Undersheriff, shows beyond any doubt that Obenberger does not have the judgement required to be Sheriff. Because of no prior leadership experience, Obenberger… Read more »
I don’t think so Ralph.
Having been around law enforcement my whole life and currently working with real LEO every day of my life… All I have to say to the Mono County Citizens is you deserve better and you deserve a Sheriff’s Department that you can count on, not what you have now. It… Read more »
Hi Matt or is it Joe. writing speeding ticket’s is “real LEO”. Do you think Mono County wants big city L.E. think again.
Time to move on Ralph. Your track record and old school techniques are out dated. Maybe you should think about Arizona.
I don’t know about anyone else, but all is see is a smirky liability to the county of Mono, with the lawsuits to prove it. Put an end to the good ole boy club and get hid of Obenberger, Webber, West, Beard, Hahn, Clark, and Minder. Start fresh and go… Read more »
It’s only been 6 years?
I bet Ralph dosn’t have a 5-0 vote with the BOS now that he tried to jump tough with them with the goon squad as back up. When an organization is ruled by a climate of fear, everyone endorses the boss. The goon squad sergeants will make sure that everyone… Read more »
Really?
What message your trying to spu is totally incorrect. Long before Braun mono county deputies attended RPAC meetings in every community. So ease your little pea brain that it’s a conspiracy.
I have not seen a sergeant at the Crowley Lake RPAC meeting before.
If the Sheriff’s Department is so underworked that they can take supervisors out of the field to babysit RPAC meetings, they need to take some personnel cuts to balance out the rest of Mono County’s budget.
This is the first Sheriff here in a very long time who actually targets criminal and bad apple employees. He has my family’s support!
I don’t know who you think you are kidding, but the public has his number. I am sure you see your future swirling with him! 🙂 Baaaabye!
Jake, if that was true Obenberger would have got rid of Weber, not made him the Undersheriff!!!!!!
Glad to hear your willing to give up your rights Jake! Welcome to a police state! Never mind the fact that there is a constitution protecting the right against unlawful search and seizure for a reason! You are blind! At least until your pulled over by mono gastapo! Can anyone… Read more »
“Looking at the big picture, at the future of the department”… I don’t think so.
I bet if the Board of Supervisors had it to do all over again the only ones that would vote for him would be Vickie Bauer and Hap Hazzard…. And we all know why!
Was Ingrid able to seek endorsement by all of these associations that are quoted as endorsing Obenberger or was he just automatically given the endorsement? Did he formally request to be endorsed or did these associations just hand it to him?
He Probably told them all during a aquad meeting that if he didnt get the support he would cut monies or cut their time off… hes just bullying them!!
I vote INGRID BRAUN!!
You would be wrong and would loose that bet. Sheriff Obenberger gain the support of MCSD employees the old fashion way, he earned it. Now if you were talking about the former sheriff, I wouldn’t be reasoned to you. We didn’t support him and he in turn didn’t support us.… Read more »
To answer your question, Obenberger earned our support and he didn’t need to ask us. We support Obenberger because he supports all of us. He has made big changes at MCSD. He took over a department that had no direction and low morale and did the impossible, he made it… Read more »
Double Yawn…..
I think I need to vomit.
You notice he doesn’t make one comment about his career at LASO. “I interact daily with county, state, and other justice partners” you notice he doesn’t say he has a good relationship with them, just that he interacts. Lol He also doesn’t mention that instead of using the AB109 money… Read more »
Why talk about LASD? What’s the point? Yes they are in need of a sheriff but Obenberger is the Sheriff here in Mono County. You working with all those agencies must have some understanding about elections and must have forgotten that there was a maximum allotment of characters allowed on… Read more »
I would bet if he had promoted or did anything that was a real accomplishment at LASO he would have wrote that in his election notice. He was with LASO for 15 years and not a single promotion. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Obenberger’s… Read more »
I just love how this man takes credit for $250,000 of community corrections partnership money. That money is AB109 money and it is a given because of the changes Govenor Brown enacted to reduce the state prison population. Ralphy did not do anything extra to get this money, other than… Read more »
You need to go back and read it again. He states “obtained funding” and goes on to state how some of it was used. How else can a department get it other then obtaining it with the approval of the sheriff? He could have done nothing! As for the overtime,… Read more »
I can tell you where I get my information. Here it is straight from the minutes of the Board of Supervisor meeting dated 6-11-13 where he was requesting raises and promotions for his employees…. http://www.monocounty.ca.gov/sites/default/files/06_jun_11_2013_mins.pdf Here is another quote that shows where I get my information….. ahhh that would be… Read more »
