Mammoth officials called Monday’s conference call with Mammoth Lakes Land Acquisition “productive.” Marianna Marysheva-Martinez, advisor to the Town, said that a broad set of options for the $41 million debt settlement may go to the Town Council in the fall with public review and debate to follow.
Martinez, along with Town Manager Dave Wilbrecht, took part in a phone conference call with MLLA representatives Jay Becker and Terry Ballas. Martinez called the call productive. She also said that the same officials plan to meet August 15-17 and again September 12-14 in the Town of Mammoth offices. Martinez said the purpose of the August meeting is to discuss any questions from MLLA based on their review of volumes of information and materials provided by the Town to date and to discuss the Town’s annual budget, financials and assets.
Martinez said the purpose of the meeting in September is to “begin brainstorming ideas regarding possible settlement options that MLLA may be interested in and that the Town could afford, keeping in mind our finances and the resort status.”
Officials believe that in late September or early October they will present what Martinez described as a preliminary and broad set of possible options to the Town Council in closed session. Once the Town Council, Town Management and MLLA narrow down the set of options, according to Martinez, there will be a public process to review and debate them.
Martinez said, “We hope that this will lead to a settlement plan presented to the Council for approval, perhaps as early as December.” She said that once a plan is approved, there will be a lot of tedious work to implement the actual plan and its impact on the Town.

Jose-
just sayin’ that maybe the “50%” need to learn ENGLISH. What % are illegally here? Why do they care about the money issues since they work mostly cash jobs and don’t contribute a dime back to the services they use and abuse? Adios.
. You don’t mind the cheap labor but your not willing to print info in Spanish.
Now you’re all looking like racist
it’s rather fitting.
No disrespect intended Jose, but the Latino population has access to the newspapers and news just like everyone else. You seem to be implying that something special needs to be done to reach these folks. We have all been saturated with this information, so it doesn’t appear that anyone was… Read more »
With over %50 of the town Hispanic it’s time to start paying to print everything in Spanish. Or does TOML not give a darn about their Hispanic population?
Given how much TOML already does for everybody including the Hispanic population — how can you even ask that question?
Workforce housing; free public transportation; jobs for the lowest skilled; medical care for next to nothing — seriously how can you ask that question?
just curious as to how well informed is the latino community about TOML’s money troubles? since mammoth population is nearly or above 50 percent hispanic, shoulddn’t they be aware of the town’s money issues as well?. just saying….
In times like this, the town is better off declaring bankruptcy, at least its a way to start anew.
Is it me or is something really wrong with the system when a company can “buy” a lawsuit from someone, then try it in court and win, then reap the benefits even though they were never a victim in the first place?
The town will eventually present two or three onerous options for payment, none of which will be in the best interests of the community and then demand a “Sophie’s Choice” by the people. They need to be open to public input on ways to settle from the start. We’ve seen… Read more »
I have my pies ready to throw at these clowns when they show up in town.
