Mammoth Library Dries Out after Flood

The day after Christmas a water pipe in Mammoth Lakes new library broke which caused damage and closed the beautiful new facility.

Officials said that a main fire sprinkler pipe broke for some reason, flooded the second floor of the building and then the first floor. Fortunately few books were damaged, but walls, ceiling and carpet did sustain significant water damage.

The Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, Service Master and local electricians quickly responded. Thousands of gallons of water had flooded the library, starting at about 2:30pm December 26th. More than a dozen people were actually in the library when the flood started. The four-inch pipe leaked for about 20 minutes.

Today, spokesmen said that blowers and dehumidifiers were at work to dry out the library. Meanwhile, no fines on library books. Hold onto materials if possible or return them through the drop box or at any other Mono County Library. The Crowley Lake and june Lake libraries will be open 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday until the Mammoth Lakes Library reopens.
